Credentials
Dr. Karen Van Houten has more than 25 years of experience training singers (of all ages) for theatrical productions, recitals, bands, college/professional auditions and NYSSMA (with students earning high grades & top sight singing scores).
She holds a Ph.D. in Voice Performance/Musical Theatre from NYU and a Masters in Voice Performance from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University (formerly the Peabody Conservatory of Music).
Dr. Van Houten has taught in public schools, churches and for acting/dance companies. Performance credits include work in plays, musicals and children's theater for regional and dinner theatres, recitals, TV, recording and as a church organist/pianist and soloist.
Her students have appeared on Broadway, in national tours, in The American Girl Revue, on TV, with The Broadway Kids and Sugarbeats, as National Anthem soloists for sports teams and in featured roles in regional, community, and school theatre productions.
